LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Kelly Landry, a former collegiate all-America and the Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator at the University of Illinois for the last five years, has been hired in the same capacity at the University of Kansas, athletics director Lew Perkins announced on Tuesday.

"We are very fortunate to have Kelly join our staff," Perkins said. "Not only is she an outstanding administrator, she was a standout student-athlete as well. She understands the needs of student-athletes and is responsive to them."

At Illinois, Landry oversaw all operations of men's and women's basketball, volleyball, men's and women's track and field, men's and women's golf, women's swimming and softball. She also administered game contracts and scheduling for men's basketball, coordinated postseason travel for men's and women's basketball and performed numerous other senior management-level duties. She has served as Co-Chair of the Big Ten Conference Administrator's Council, and currently serves as a member of the NCAA
Championships/Competition Cabinet and the Big Ten Legislative Review Committee. She has also served on the NCAA Track and Field Committee, the Big Ten Sports Management Executive Committee and the Big Ten Joint Group Executive Committee.

Landry also served four years as Assistant Athletic Director for Business/Senior Woman Administrator at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla. At Miami, Landry managed the athletic department's $20 million budget, and was responsible for financial planning and budgeting for all sports programs.

Landry has also served as Special Assistant to the Director at the Northeastern University Center for the Study of Sport in Society, and as Assistant Athletic Director for Business for the Northeastern University women's athletics department.

She also spent two years as Executive Director of S.M.A.R.T. Sports, Inc., a
community-wide partnership program to provide mentoring assistance for youth in Miami, Fla.

A former collegiate track standout, Landry earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Alabama in 1986, where she was an All-American in track and field. She was a member of the World University Games Team and the Pan American Team in 1987, and finished fourth in the
United States Olympic Trials in 1992. She later earned a master's degree in higher education from the University of Illinois in 2001.

At KU, Landry will be a member of Perkins' senior staff and will oversee several sports programs. She will begin her duties in Lawrence in mid-October.
